A real community
The technorati site: http://www.technorati.com/
bringing bloggers together in real time through its instant updates on who is cross-referring to whom. Alerted to this by Nog's blog & impressed by the way it demolished my scepticism about communities requiring " interaction & bilateral consciousness of participation".
Lurkers rule!! :-)

Weeeeeeeeel. We now have a "community" of a few billion "passively" watching live8 and a "community" of some 3 million who have signed the Live8list (I don't doubt that these groups intersect) and about 10,500 blog posts using the live8 tag which alerts Technorati about another post and countless others which are not being recorded. And all that is aimed at convincing eight people who represent the wealthiest nations in the world that a part of our community, those dying of curable illnesses in Africa, deserve our help. Twenty years ago was different in any number of ways but a key one must be the possibility of interaction beyond simply sending money (mustn't it?).

Now 26.4 million names on the live8 list - that's some community!
